Children's Hospital
Inaugurated in December 2000, with 102 beds, 10 of them destined to attend serious children in the Intensive Care Center (ICC), the Children's Hospital (HC) offers humanized medical-hospital assistance, following the principles defended by Irma Dulce - providing care Integral to the patient. It was the first health center in Bahia to meet all the demands of Conanda - National Council for the Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents- on the rights of children and adolescents hospitalized, among them, the right to have the mother as companion during the entire hospitalization period.
In the CTI, the patient's family has the care provided by a psychologist, who works with the parents the stress situation in which they are due to the hospitalization of their children and the change of their routines.
The Children's Hospital also has socio-educational programs, such as the School in the Hospital project, giving children the opportunity to continue their studies during the period of hospitalization, as recommended by the Statute of the Child and Adolescent. The Program against abuse, which identifies cases of violence against children and adolescents and the Mothers Club, where a multidisciplinary team accompanies mothers of hospitalized patients.
SCHOOL IN HOSPITAL
Since September 2001, the School in the Hospital program has taken the school daily into the hospital environment. In addition to the regular activities in the two classrooms, the boys and girls participate in playful-pedagogical events, socio-educational lectures, extra-class walks, prevention campaigns and oral hygiene.
By maintaining pedagogical content for inpatients and introducing children in school-age into the classroom, the program has contributed to reducing the stress of hospitalization and giving self-confidence to the children, helping them to believe in healing and re-establishing Their normal activities.
The program, pioneer in Bahia, is the result of an agreement with the Municipal Department of Education and has managed to reduce evasion and repetition.
PROGRAM TO COMBAT CHILDREN MISTREATMENT
The Program of Care for Children and Adolescents Victims of mistreatment was implemented in 1998, with the training of professionals to identify cases. In 2001, the program received the support of Treviglio City Hall (Italy), which in 2003 renewed the agreement for another ten years. Through the research with the public attended, the Children's Hospital diagnosed that about 16% of the cases of violence against the children are of sexual abuse. The program ensures the follow-up, treatment and recovery of victims. The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Juvenile Court for Children and Youth offer legal assistance to facilitate legal action in cases of losing parental responsibility and adoption.
The institution's social service also has a partnership with the Region's Guardianship Council, making notifications when there is any suspicion of mistreatment or risk to the child.
MOTHERS CLUB
The Mothers Club works with the mothers, making manual work, teaching them an occupation and taking advantage of the moment to discuss the process of children's illness and the impact on the rest of the family, in a group, helping them understand the moment. This is very important since there is a great conflict between being with their children and the confinement in a hospital unit to which they are submitted.
The approach to these issues happens according to the group demand as the manual work is carried out, initiating a round of conversations. In this way, the team can rescue, through the exchange of experiences among mothers, the reduction of stress, providing improvement in interpersonal relationships and with the team of caregivers, often rescuing the affective bond between mother and child. This work also provides the rescue of self-esteem through learning new skills.
