Community Center Irmã Dulce of the Poor
Community Center was conceived by Irma Dulce Social Works (OSID), in partnership with the State Health Secretary (SESAB). The unit is focused on assisting people belonging to the territory of the Itapagipana Peninsula and the Historical Center, suffering from psychic disease and social vulnerability, especially to users of psychoactive substances (SPAs), as well as to the families living in the neighborhood and clients referenced by the public health system (SUS).
The activities of this center are based on the rescue and strengthening of citizenship; health promotion and disease prevention; encouraging art, culture and education; reduction of risks and damages of the use and abuse of SPAs and sexually transmitted diseases; social empowerment and the solidarity economy associated with income generation.
The assistance provided by the Community Center has also the external performance of the Damage Reduction Program (PRD), which, in addition to serving the neediest public crowded in the Historic Center, has expanded its assistance network to other regions of Salvador. The damage reduction team’s work in several areas of the city, including streets and squares, informing and guiding psychoactive substances users and street dwellers. Within this informational and educational work there are approaches involving various subjects, such as drug policies, sexuality, sexually transmittable diseases, HIV / AIDS, among other topics, bringing information, prevention and awareness to those who need it most.
