Santo Antônio Hospital
The history of the Santo Antônio Hospital (HSA), the heart of the Irmã Dulce Social Works (OSID), mixes with the institution birth. Its roots date back to 1949, when Sister Dulce improvised a shelter for 70 patients rescued from the streets of Salvador in the convent hen house. Already in 1960, the religious inaugurated the Santo Antônio Hostel, a center that will give place to the hospital complex two decades later, with the inauguration of the HSA in 1983. Currently, the hospital already stands out as one of the largest health units in the North and Northeast of Brazil and one of the best furnished in Bahia.
The complex, which has become a reference in the care of the needy population - among other states - now, registers an average of 16.5 million hospitalizations and 10 million annual surgeries. With 373 beds and an Intensive Care Center, HSA offers care in 17 specialties, divided between the wards of the Medical Clinic, Long Stay Medical Clinic (chronic) and Clinic Surgical.
SURGICAL CENTER
This is a unit of excellence. It was the first nucleus to be awarded in 2002 with the ISO 9001 quality certificate version 2000. The certification is valid for an exercise of surgeries in several areas and support services such as Sterilization, Patient Record, Blood Collection and Transfusion Station, Bio-Image and Surgical Clinics of Santo Antônio Hospital and Child’s Hospital (Hospital da Criança).
Initially inaugurated with nine surgical rooms, this number was increased with the opening of the tenth room in the year 2012, which made it possible to increase the volume of surgical procedures, especially the oncological ones, helping to reduce queues in the specialties of Urology, Mastology, Head and Neck Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology.
The Surgical Center also has ten observation beds in the Post Anesthesia Recovery Center, allowing patients to recover from sedation with greater safety. The team is composed of more than 100 health professionals, responsible for conducting an average of 900 elective surgeries per month. Equipped with modern appliances, the unit performs surgeries in the following specialties: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Proctology, Mastology, Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and procedures in Buccomaxillofacial Surgery.
INTENSIVE CARE CENTER
Intensive Care Center (CTI) of the Santo Antônio Hospital emerged in 1996 as a differentiated proposal in relation to the existing units in Salvador. The challenge was to create a comfortable work environment equipped with modern appliances and with humanization as a priority for its multidisciplinary team - consisting of doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, nursing technicians and scholars.
Composed of 10 beds, CTI also has a psychologist, supporting patients and family members to understand the process of illness and thus strengthen. It also has a speech therapist who works with oral rehabilitation and reintroduces oral diets with greater safety, accelerating the healing process.
Through an agreement with the State Health Department (SESAB), OSID doubled its bed supply with the inauguration, in July 2016, of the new CTI with ten beds aimed at surgical patients, reducing the waiting list for surgery in the Institution and optimizing service to the population. The new space had investments of approximately R $ 2.5 million for its construction and purchase of equipment. Some devices, such as pulmonary ventilators and multipara metric monitors, were also feasible through a parliamentary amendment appeal.
